Before you start building on your expertise with Intercultural Professionals, to understand more about your level of intercultural competence, we ask you to complete one of two different assessment tests.
- Intercultural Readiness Check (IRC) is geared to people operating in an international environment.
- Multicultural Personality Questionnaire (MPQ) is also useful for people working in a multicultural environment in their own country.

You can also take a test to assess yourself independently of a training course, to gain invaluably and intriguing insights into your attitudes and behaviour.
After completing either of the tests, you receive personal feedback with suggestions for development.
Over the past 12 years, more than 35,000 respondents from all over the world have completed this test developed by the consultancy firm IBI. Its database is now one of the largest sources of information on intercultural competences in the world.
The Intercultural Readiness Check (IRC) assesses four intercultural competences, all of which can be developed through training:
- Intercultural Sensitivity
- Building Commitment
- Intercultural Communication
- Managing Uncertainty
The Multicultural personality questionaire (MPQ) was designed at Groningen University by psychology and diversity specialists Karen van der Zee and Jan Pieter van Oudenhoven. It can be used to predict how easy it will be for people to feel at ease with and adjust to people from other cultures.
The test increases self-awareness as a basis for developing intercultural competences. It assesses five personality factors:
- Cultural Empathy
- Social Initiative
- Emotional Stability
The IRC measures what can be developed, the MPQ measures what is developed and reflects on your personality.
The IRC provides a route, the MPQ a picture.
The IRC is often used in talent development whereas the MPQ is often used by HR recruitment or business partners to gain an impression of an employee’s suitability for an international assignment.
